The Painter and the Devils

The story of a mysterious palace near Florence. Who built it and why? Why is it called the "Palace of the Devils?" And what does it have to do with the Florentine painter Agnolo di Cosimo, known as "Bronzino"?

  1. Thanks for that slice of Florence and its history, Ugo. More please.

And as to speculation, that is all there is when it comes to the past (and present and future, really.) Even if "we" somehow managed to be "there", our human limitations prevent us from fully realizing the moment and reporting it, even if we were inclined to present it "honestly" as "we" experienced it. The REAL question, as always, is: how good (accurate) is the speculation regarding the event/location to what may have actually happened/been? What you laid out in this piece seems right to me, as it connects numerous dots across several domains, and it comes from a native literally born into the place (one blessed with the urge to explore the possibilities and offer up the speculation as to what might have been.)

    Again, more please.
